  • Syntax error crashes Rexx

This statement, taken from a THE macro, crashes ooRexx 4.0 on both W2K and WXP: Parse Var curline.3() . ': ' rcpt . Obviously I was *very* tired when I wrote that! But still, a Syntax Error should have been raised, instead of crashing Rexx!

  • Followup: RE: re-size on Windows

Post to Feature requests for Mark's attention. I doubt that it's readily doable. Under Windows THE runs in a command window to provide the look and feel of a mainframe green screen with fixed fonts, like a 3270. You can change the size and font by right-clicking on the THE logo in the upper left corner and choose Properites. Watch out for fonts that don't slash a zero so you can tell it from...

  • Followup: RE: Is there a THE tutorial kicking around

I never looked for one as I have umptity-ump years of Xedit experince on VM. However, here's a link to the Xedit User's Guide: http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/HCSD9A00/CCONTENTS?DT=19950908201341.

  • Followup: RE: Commands not working on new THE build

If you've never used a mainframe editor, then read this: http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/HCSD9A00/CCONTENTS?DT=19950908201341 Then read the THE.pdf you installed with THE. Appendix 6 is THE By Task. A quick summary of commands: HELP command (Function key 1). For your specific original question: You don't use the prefix area to renumber your source code. The prefix...

  • PUT n requires Admin priv on XP

XP has TWO sets of environment variables: User (Les) and System! The User settings on XP look like the System settings on W2K but the System settings on XP are: TMP=C:\WINDOWS\TMP and similar for TEMP. The W2K setting is: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp for both TEMP and TMP. I had nothing to do with generating these settings on either system! I've set the System TMP on the XP system...

  • PUT n requires Admin priv on XP

On Windows XP, it appears that THE must be run with Administrator privileges so that PUT can write to the C:\ disk. That's not the case on my W2K desktop. Is there some setting/trick I need to know on XP so I can use THE without exposing my whole laptop with Admin privileges?.

  • Comment: 4.0 accesses the internet for random DNS

ping localhost does not raise a ZA alert.

  • Comment: 4.0 accesses the internet for random DNS

That would be a BAD thing to do as I have NO WAY of selecting WHICH rexx program *should* be allowed access to the internet NOR any way of selecting WHICH ip should be allowed! The previous append by Mark makes perfect logical sense, it just doesn't correlate with the facts: 1-Multiple (apparently random) DNS ip addresses are being attempted. 69.88.152.3 is certainly valid but what about the...

  • Comment: 4.0 accesses the internet for random DNS

Mark, Road Runner Helpdesk confirms that is one of their DNS servers. That however, doesn't explain all the *other* ip address alerts that I'm getting. Neither does it explain why EVERY rexx program run from the command windown gets a ZA alert. After all, once rexapi has the address of localhost, it shouldn't need to resolve it again! Today's ZA log shows: ZoneAlarm Logging Client...

  • Comment: 4.0 accesses the internet for random DNS

Mark; Here's the info you requested (sorry about the name slip up). I figured out to change WINDOWS to WINNT (surprise!) for the command you gave me. Note the DNS server is NOT 69.88.152.3 and localhost IS defined. Also, please note that the symptoms changed from the current beta to the one before. Rick: THE has NEVER been permitted to the internet, not has ANY version or incantation of Rexx...
