I've been working on a FreeBSD port for open-vm-tools. I submitted a patch for hgfsmounter.c that fixes the problem on 7.0 but may break earlier versions. It appears that MNT_NODEV was removed from FreeBSD in version 6.0 or 6.1 (I'm not sure about the exact date.)
