Thorben, Glad you got it working. I am curious though, LiveView is working with Workstation 7 on Windows 7 for you? (So it seems that the problem was that LiveView was already installed and you upgraded from Workstation 6.5.x to 7)? Thanks! -t.

  • Followup: RE: Snap Shot Creation Failed

It looks like there are a couple things potentially going wrong here: LiveView doesn't seem to be doing some registry queries correctly and something is confused about whether you currently have Server or Workstation installed. After the failure is the VM still created (vmx exists - possibly listed in VMWare's list, possibly not)? If so, can you start the VM? Another thing i'm...

Thorben- I assume that workstation 7 is failing a version check that LiveView is enforcing. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of Workstation 7 as of yet, i'll try to get a hold of a copy ASAP and see how this installation footprint differs. FYI, i doubt it's a 64 bit issue, i've run LiveView many times on 64bit Vista with Workstation 6.5.x. -t.

yup, lots of progress. :-) there are some interesting hurdles that need(ed) to be addressed. Thanks for the re-re-request though, it's one gauge of determining feature desire.

  • Followup: RE: PartImage Not Ghost ie PING

I don't have an experience with it, but some of the documentation on their website leads me to believe this product would not be the best choice for forensic purposes: http://www.partimage.org/Supported-Filesystems NTFS is "experimental" http://www.partimage.org/Main_Page "Partimage will only copy data from the used portions of the partition."...

  • Followup: RE: Live View could not auto detect OS

It appears that LiveView was not able to mount the vmware snapshot, and as such was not able to configure the snapshot image for the VMWare disk driver which is likely why windows blue screens when you attempt to boot. if you could please re create this error, then email me (or post here if you prefer) the file "MostRecentRun.log" found in the LiveView directory under Program Files...

  • Followup: RE: Java Error

Kev et all- A few people have experienced similar if not exactly the same error. What is happening in at least some of these cases is that the shortcut link created on the desktop is ending up with the wrong target. The LiveView installer makes some effort to detect the location the JRE is installed to, then create the desktop shortcut accordingly. In some scenarios , like if you...

  • Followup: RE: Linux

similarly, i hate to simply repeat previous statements, but it IS "in the works" :-) seriously though, there are a handful of "large" issues that need to be sorted out when porting to linux. Substantial progress has been made on a couple of them i the past couple months, but there is still no real timeline for a *nix release. If i had to prioritize LiveView tasks i...

  • Followup: RE: vm-list help

i assume that you're still experiencing the above reg.exe issues with win2000? I believe i did run into this or a similar issue when testing with a Vista host. However Server 1.x is not intended to be installed on Vista (not a supported setup by VMWare), and if i recall correctly it took quite a bit of effort to install 1.0.8 (possibly even disabling UAC if i remember right). have you had...
