Sorry for the delay in responding. The tuning duration can be easily increased. I have not been attending to this project in the past year because of other priorities, but it badly needs some updating and I'll look at incorporating your idea.

When I run a search from the main page, it hangs for a
really long time (Firefox, Linux, fast DSL connection)

Occasionally I get spim, stuff like "bunny82578" who says "hi cuty, let's chat! ...Oh well I guess you're not there" and I can only quiver in helpless rage as I add yet another spim sender to my blocked list.
The question is, how are these things getting through? I already block everybody but my specific buddies, supposedly, but these bots seem to be able to get through...

OK, sorry for misleading you. I did indeed moderate this
guy's comment as "redundant". I remember what happened now;
after discovering he was plagiarizing comments using
"anti-slash.org" I looked at his other comments and verified
that this one was also plagiarized. I guess I suppressed
the whole thing!
By the way, the metamod is wrong in this case;...
