  • Comment: SGF Format handling problem

This is a known problem that happens when you have a collection of problems, and they're all invalid. When GG sees a bad problem, it prints an error, and then skips to the next problem. In your case, there's no next good problem. If you put a known valid problem in the folder with the one you're working on, then GG won't get stuck anymore.

It's interesting that you have a problem setting the locale if you aren't root. All the code is doing in that case is writing to grind.locale file in the GG directory. You probably should mess around with the file permissions for that whole directory tree, and try to make them more permissive. Do you have problems with other Java applications? I sounds like maybe your Java install isn't...

I wonder if the problem could be related to internationalization. Did you do anything to get it to show the messages in Spanish, or did it do that by default? Try running it with this parameter on the command line: defaultLanguage=en That will make it come up in English, and we can see if the problem has to do with the Spanish locale.

The update check probably failed because you have a firewall turned on, but that shouldn't cause problems with anything else. Can you send me the grind.log file from your GoGrinder directory?.

  • Comment: Randomize order of problems

Take another look at the problem selection dialog. There are several ways to order the problems, one of which is random order.

  • Comment: GoGrinder freaks out on smaller screens.

I haven't ever tried running GG on a handheld, but I have an idea. If you run it on a PC, and resize the window so that it's small enough to fit on the 800X480 screen, shut it down, and then you copy the grind.dat file over to the handheld, it might come up with a reasonable layout.

  • $ in password breaks Eclipse submitter

Some of my students had $ in their passwords. When they submitted through Eclipse, the wizard reported success but the browser tab never appeared, and their submissions were not visible on the web site.

  • Followup: RE: No console output

I'm using the 1.8.2 version of Ruby. I tried adding $stdout.sync, but that didn't do anything. I see the problem when running or debugging - no output. I know Ruby is working okay - I get syntax errors, and I can look at variables and the stack when I hit a breakpoint, but for some reason I just don't get any console output.
