Bernhard,
I'm all for getting whatever we can released -- getting something out there may inspire more folks to help you work on improving the windows build.
If you can figure out a way to include a note either in the installer or the first start-up to warn about known issues, that might help reduce the number of bug reports we get for known issues on windows.
I believe I may have...

Someone else reported this bug. Unfortunately, until a new Windows version comes out, we're unlikely to make any progress on it.
My best guess is that this is an i18n bug. If you can try setting up your windows environment to run in English, this may work.

Your database *should* update automatically and Gourmet will make a copy of the file before updating it in case something goes wrong.
It wouldn't do any harm to run an export as an extra precaution and then reimport it. The export doesn't include things like nutritional information, though.

You can type in any cuisine you like and in the future those will be added to the dropdown menu automatically.
As for things like "diabetic" and so on, you can decide if you'd like to include that information under "cuisine" or "category". One advantage of including that under "category" is that you can add multiple categories but not to multiple cuisines (this is because category was...

Nope -- XP doesn't change much.
If you just want the program to work, there's a chance it would work if you could get the program to run in English -- this is likely an internationalization bug.
