Gerhard,
I found more glitches on my system - yesterday I upgraded the OS on my
desktop to the latest release of Mandriva (2010), and with it came a new
version of gcc (4.4.1). Then I tried to recompile the latest snapshot
(ESMF_4_0_0rp_beta_snapshot_02) and it failed - it gave me errors in
src/Infrastructure/Mesh/src/ESMCI_MEImprint.C
Here is the error...

Gary now understands that VM communication calls require contiguous src/dst array arguments. It will be good to make that clearer in the VM Restrictions section in the Ref Doc. (See email traffic on this ticket for details).

The problem turned out to be bad code in the newly implemented DistGrid::create() from DistGrid method. For some reason () slipped into a "new int" statement, instead of the [] brackets. Strangely the code did not cause any problems on all of our test platforms. Luckily it caused trouble on Atanas' Linux ia32 desktop, and he found the problem! It's now fixed in ESMF_4_0_0rp_beta_snapshot_02, and...
