I think D2X-XL would really benefit from a console similar to the one seen in the Source engine (or Quake 3 engine games).
The options menu is waaay too crowded imo and some of these options could be turned into console variables so they are still accessible from in-game but they allow the options menu to become simpler (IE: currently there are tons of smoke sliders that can be consolidated...

I cannot reproduce this with UPX 3.02 in Windows. I doubt a website can cause whatever problem you are experiencing, especially if it happens in multiple browsers. I suggest trying the program uncompressed and seeing if you run into the same problems. You should also do an anti-virus and anti-malware scan of your computer.

Some programs simply cannot be upx compressed. There are a number of reasons I have personally run into for Windows programs:
- The program stores an internal checksum of itself and checks it to make sure it isn't corrupted (IE NSIS installers). The program will refuse to run if the checksum isn't correct (which it won't be since UPX changes the file).

On Win32 (didn't test other platforms), UPX doesn't properly handle paths with both quotes and wildcards.
Here is a cmd.exe dump of a quick test. The first run produces the desired output... the rest of the runs should produce similar output.

Yes. I tried auto, 4axis, and 2axis and they all crash.
Also it might be a bug with SDL (is it SDL which handes mapper.txt, or is it DOSBox? The answer is probably the program that is responsible for the crash). I made sure DOSBox was using the latest stable SDL (1.2, built 7/20/07) and it still crashes.

If a joystick is plugged into a Windows system (I was using Vista; no clue about other OSs) and joysticks are enabled in the .conf file used, and mapper.txt is missing, then DOSBox crashes after displaying the detected joystick's axes/buttons in the Status Window.
All three conditions must be present or there is no crash.
