  • [Windows] With --version, window closes immediately

When I run dosbox.exe --version in Windows XP in order to have it dump version information (I forgot what the current version was and wanted to make sure this guy who had problems with a game was running the same version as me), it launches a new console window. This window immediately closes after printing said information, so I do not have time to read it. It is also impossible to pipe the...

  • Console

I think D2X-XL would really benefit from a console similar to the one seen in the Source engine (or Quake 3 engine games). The options menu is waaay too crowded imo and some of these options could be turned into console variables so they are still accessible from in-game but they allow the options menu to become simpler (IE: currently there are tons of smoke sliders that can be consolidated...

  • Comment: exe with UPX abort

I cannot reproduce this with UPX 3.02 in Windows. I doubt a website can cause whatever problem you are experiencing, especially if it happens in multiple browsers. I suggest trying the program uncompressed and seeing if you run into the same problems. You should also do an anti-virus and anti-malware scan of your computer. It is also possible that the specific program you tried is not...

  • Comment: Exe from Upx dont run

Some programs simply cannot be upx compressed. There are a number of reasons I have personally run into for Windows programs: - The program stores an internal checksum of itself and checks it to make sure it isn't corrupted (IE NSIS installers). The program will refuse to run if the checksum isn't correct (which it won't be since UPX changes the file). - The program unmounts the volume it...

  • [Win32] UPX can't handle quotes and wildcards in paths

On Win32 (didn't test other platforms), UPX doesn't properly handle paths with both quotes and wildcards. Here is a cmd.exe dump of a quick test. The first run produces the desired output... the rest of the runs should produce similar output. C:\>mkdir x C:\>cd x C:\x>echo. >x.txt C:\x>upx --lzma "x.txt" Ultimate Packer for eXecutables Copyright (C...

  • Comment: Missing mapper.txt + Joystick = crash

Yes. I tried auto, 4axis, and 2axis and they all crash. Also it might be a bug with SDL (is it SDL which handes mapper.txt, or is it DOSBox? The answer is probably the program that is responsible for the crash). I made sure DOSBox was using the latest stable SDL (1.2, built 7/20/07) and it still crashes.

  • Missing mapper.txt + Joystick = crash

If a joystick is plugged into a Windows system (I was using Vista; no clue about other OSs) and joysticks are enabled in the .conf file used, and mapper.txt is missing, then DOSBox crashes after displaying the detected joystick's axes/buttons in the Status Window. All three conditions must be present or there is no crash. An expected behavior would be for DOSBox to either use hard coded...

  • Comment: Looks like I'm not logged in if I click on "Moderation Help"

Logged In: YES user_id=915757 This occurs because that page is a static page, without dynamic content. No scripts are executed, no databases contacted, etc, thus the page appears 100% the same to everyone who views it. It's much less load on the slashdot servers, at least for that page. This is 99% likely by design.
