Ok, this was a routing problem. The solution was to leave the recording device as ADC, and route recording to RCA Spdif. If any of you are having problems with routing, Gemu helped out a lot. http://sourceforge.net/projects/gemu/.

I have not tested it with any Halflife servers or mods. Halflife was created from a modified Q2 engine, so if gLuV doesn't work with HL, it should be able to be easily modified to work with HL. However, I do not play HL, nor am I inclined to (also HL is old technology now, and many gamers are moving on to other games), so I will not be adding HL support.

Ok, I tried the emu-tools. 'emu-config -p' after using every mixer at my disposal shows "ADC" as the recording device. Setting it using emu-config -s"Mic" shows this on 'emu-config -p':

Sry for double posting by accident. I emerged alsa-drivers, and the mic worked with Teamspeak, and other recording software. If this is a problem with the emu10k1 drivers, I'd kinda like to see it resolved.
