It's not just pom.xml, it means also organized project structure. For example, unit tests are in arbitrary location in SVN right now and finding and running them is complicated, I have to manually assign source jar in eclipse, etc.
No problem to contribute pom.xml and new structure, we have done it anyway. It's just "do you see the benefit?"
