This is not a bug. :-) The root password is not set, you need to use sudo to perform root actions.

This brings up a lot of questions. Do other back end databases support this? Would it require changes to the snort or what ever that is inputing the events?.

I can try to help you, but I would need more information. Is there a log message when you try to view archived alerts? What type of data is being stored?
I moved this from a bug report to a support request because it really isn't a bug in BASE.
