  • “Bad file descriptor” errors

Hi, I am opening this bug-report for the people who experience “Bad file descriptor” errors while uploading binary files with yencee. In my case, I have turned–on all sorts of PERL debugging options while posting binary files, to see what the problem is underneath the PERL layer. I am now having a gut–feeling that Giganews (and other news–providers) do _something_ near the s.

  • Followup: RE: Quits on error

Hi, I have now turned–on all sorts of PERL debugging while posting some binary files. Because I did not get this error for several days, I was hoping I was experiencing the age–old “computer law” that says “everything will work while debugging” (lol). But this morning I did get this error once again. I think it is a timing problem with the news–provider, because this mornin.

  • Followup: RE: Quits on error

Hi again, I got another of these errors. The syswrite to the server is producing this error. The $err var looks to be ‘empty’ (probably ‘undef’ in perl terms) at this time. The test for “$err < 1” is invoked, which prints the ‘$!’ string then dies. It is the ‘$!’ string that tells us “Bad file descriptor”. I have changed that “die $!” message to print a.

  • Followup: RE: Quits on error

Hi, re: yencee griping about “Upload failed: Bad file descriptor”. I am having this problem also. For me, it is quite random — sometimes an entire file (splitted 800MB) can be posted without trouble, later another similar file will have this error, all to the same nntp server (Giganews in my case). I have set “ulimit -n” (open files) higher and higher to no avail. This...

  • Comment: Linking fails with MacOSX (all XCode-3.1.2 compilers)

Hi, Appreciate your help, yes I believe when I was using Tiger on the Core2Duo we did not have much problem compiling 4.58. But I said we use Leopard here anymore, so… What's more, Apple intends to build everything inside SnowLeopard (10.6) with the llvm compiler suite in XCode-3.x (we have 3.1.2 here now). Anyway, we're getting a smidge-bit closer with the p7zip-4.65 tarball. F.

  • Linking fails with MacOSX (all XCode-3.1.2 compilers)

Hi, I am having a terribly difficult time trying to build p7zip-4.61 (this also occurs with 4.58). As the console log attachment shows, 'make all3' is unable to find some symbols during link time of 7zCon.sfx and of 7z. I have tested with all gcc-4.x and llvm compilers offered with Apple's XCode-3.1.2 (latest ATM) running MacOSX Leopard 10.5.6 (latest ATM) on a Core2Duo iMac. The onl.

  • Comment: Build failure on MacOSX 10.4.8

Thanks bytestorm for the tip. It did finish building & installing here. Let me give it a try on some CDs. I'm going --with-scglib=sys which should still be a later version of the scsi-mac-iokit from cdrtools rather than the one in this tarball (altho I've lost track now what I was doing ~5 months ago in this area ;) ). If this all works, I'll open a patch report (cvs repo doesn't show any ch.

  • Comment: is there a CVS/SVN repo for this project?

Hi, It doesn't matter that this project "has only one developper" [sic]. That's a non-sequitar when it comes to cvs/svn repos. Here are four quick reasons off the top of my head: (1) It'd be awfully nice to get any planned/official test-fixes from a repo before they are released. We can narrow-down a problematic change this way, rather than a srctarball with "all" patches already applied.

  • is there a CVS/SVN repo for this project?

Hi, Just noticed the ViewCVS browser as well as a "cvs checkout" (according to directions on related CVS webpage here) both show no repository for this project at SourceForge. Is the repo being kept off-site somewhere else? Or did SF's recent server revamps kill it somehow? Thanks...

  • [PATCH] 'make all' borked with recent CVS changes

    Hi, Did a cvs up and now we get this during make all: [...] if /bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I../include -I. -I../mpglib -I.. -O3 -ffast-math -funroll-loops -fschedule-insns2 -fbranch-count-reg -fforce-addr -fforce-mem -Wall -fno-common -MT lame.lo -MD -MP -MF ".deps/lame.Tpo" -c -o lame.lo.
