Thanks for your help. I agree that declarative configuration can be useful. Actually what I really would like to do is modify the configuration at runtime. For instance select a linguist between one that uses grammars and one that uses a language model. Or include endpointing in the frontend. I started out pre-configuring all the combinations in the config file, but this has become...

The javadocs for configuration manager says "Configurations can be specified either by xml or on-the-fly during runtime." Does anyone have an example of a on-the-fly configuration? For example, say I wanted to create a front end at run time that is something like this:
