I never have this kind of errors, maybe I'm not using weird characters beyong latin-1.
Can you send a stack trace and/or the offending file?

I cannot reproduce this, nor in windows nor in linux, either wx2.6 or wx2.8,
buy I now sometimes drag-n-drop hangs wxPython.
May be someone can submit a test case to reproduce it
PD: DrPython 166? Does that version exist?.
