gpicview works well when I'm trying to open file:///image.png, for example.
But assertion failure with core dump is quite inadequate reaction when file name cannot be resolved. Why just no to show usual error message "Cannot open file"?.

In case of name of file contains "://" sequence (maybe there're more, but I've just found this one), assertion fail:
$ gpicview ://
(gpicview:20389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_file_info: assertion `filename != NULL' failed

There are already too many different layouts comes with ecb, so one more won't change things for the worse.
N.B.: the list of existent layouts in ecb-layout.el is slightly dated.
