Can someone tell me how to make a local directory into a place where I can download miktex packages to, so that I can then install them as from a local repository? When I run the options wizard, goto the Packages tab, and then Change -> choose From a directory and then choose an empty folder, I'm told that this doesn't seem to be a local repository.

ADDED: there are a couple of other threads here discussing what appears to be the same problem.
One suggests that the problem occurs with clips extracted from longer file. That applies here : my experiment was with a clip extracted with Windows Movie Maker. The thread suggest processing the clip using an editor; but here this was exactly what created the clip in the first place. Any ideas?.
