This issue bears a similarity to bug 1672071, but I think it's almost the opposite situation.
I'm using the trunk (as of 2009-10-26) to read an Access DB of unknown origin (I don't know which library was used to create it; it certainly wasn't produced by Access itself, but it was made on Windows).
In this DB there's a text column that appears to be fixed-size. It looks to be 2 bytes wide...
