I got no response/solution those days in a resonable time, so I just switched Intel $50 NICs to $5 ones.
Are they supposed to work now?.

I have exactly the same situation. I have two identical NICS: Intel
PRO/1000 GT (82541PI chip).
Under heavy load *sometimes* (several times a day) I get:
e1000: eth0: e1000_clean_tx_irq: Detected Tx Unit Hang
...
NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out
and the same for another:
e1000: eth1: e1000_clean_tx_irq: Detected Tx Unit Hang
...
NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out...
