The point is that the system should be configurable, Telrad is widespread but there are some other pointing systems that the user like to set or define in Stellarium. i.e in KStars such a system is available.

I am using Stellarium as my prefered sky tool. I use it at home to know what the sky looks like on a desktop PC running Windows and also on a netbook (eeePC 701 running eeebuntu) on the field near my scope to preview and search objects to look at using my motorised scope.
Stellarium could be the top soft if it has the following missing features :

There are html docs that you could read in the folder manual that will explain what to do, but here is an abstract (ckeck in the doc if it does not work) :
- open a dos command shell, Start / Run type cmd
- move to your directory where you installed pp3 : cd C:\program Files\PP3
- create the needed environment variable required by pp3 to run : set PP3DATA=C:\program Files\PP3

I'd like to thank the author for PP3. I like it, I use it, I think I will print my own Atlas to use at night (black & white) to help me observe. But I will also create my own Desktop Atlas with nice colours many more informations.

Hi all,
I installed it on Windows yesterday evening, not for the rooky user but it is possible. Install PP3, (dont forget to set PP3DATA as noted in the doc),, install Ghotscript, install ghostview, install TEX soft like MikTEX, run it, MIKTEX need 2 or 3 more pakages but will download them by his own. And it works
In fact, I didn't find any soft that could do the same job, but I agree...

If you install MiKTEXT (I ran it on Windows) PStricks is installed but pst-text is not but will install on the fly when you will run pp3, if you have a responding repository on your net connection. There is 2 or 3 needed packages but I don't remember them. Hope this help.
