There is a port of C&C1 including multiplayer support available.

on startup, choose "S" and when asked how you want to control the game select "3".
this should not (in any case!) crash the game.

2. i think it should be possible to build with gcc on intel based macs (though i havent tried). for ppcs.... i wouldnt bet on...
