  • Comment: Can't Get Started

Can you do the following to help diagnose the issue? 1) Go OSW installation directory, probably "C:\program files\Open Sound World\" 2) Run "oswinit.tcl" 3) Observe the error messages, and provide a screenshot or text copy here. This is an old problem with how OSW initializes Tcl/Tk, it loses the console access and the messages don't get printed out.

  • Comment: quick audio degradation

I have unfortunately been seeing this behavior lately, particularly with multi core (or hyper-threaded before that) processors. Usually, it does come and go, though - i.e., if you turn on and off audio from the AudioOutput transform, it may come back. I have much more problem with this on my MacBook than I do with my older PC laptop (2.4 GHz P4). Also, does it change or go away when you...

  • Followup: RE: can not open osw?

Hi. Please go into your OSW install directory (probably "C:\Program Files\Open Sound World") and double-click "oswinst.tcl". There will probably be an error message. Please post that here or directly send it to me. I think the Windows installation is probably a bit stale, so there may some start-up issues. Thanks -Amar.

I'm sorry you're having trouble opening previously-saved patches. Can you post an example here? If so, we might be able to figure out what went wrong...

Hi Servetus- OK, since you're using onboard audio, I think you simply need to increase the buffer size (or latency), which you can do under "Options/Audio Devices" from the OSW menu. Try setting it to 512 or larger. Generally, onboard audio don't have low latency, so the smaller buffer sizes can often glitch. -Amar.

Hi Servetus- Can you provide some additional info, like platform (OSX, Windows, Linux), audio device, system specs, etc. There are lots of reasons audio can end up sounding "jerky". Thanks -Amar.

  • trackback (again)

Hi all- I get the following error whenever I attempt to include talkback pings at post time: Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to [site].blogspot.com:80 in /[dir]/scripts/sb_trackback.php on line 275 [site].blogspot.com is is just an example. It happens to every domain except my own. I've seen a few older references to this problem, but I'm still not sure what to do other than di.
