When I connect to a remote PostgreSQL server over an SSH port forward (making queries slower), the interface blocks and doesn't display anything. KPoGre should issue SQL queries asynchronously so that the interface is responsive when issuing SQL queries to the remote host.

I don't have this problem. It sounds like the version of synfigstudio you are running comes from a different place than the one you built, check if you have any packages installed.
This issue happens because we don't do proper library ABI versioning (and never have). I implemented some dependency hacks for Debian so that the synfig/synfigstudio

Please fix flasm to use mkstemp for temporary files:

It appears that flasm uses a temporary file "flasm.tmp"
in the current working directory while decompressing
a .swf, without checking to see if it already exists.
