I'm using multiple instances of squeezeslaves on Fedora 10, with 7.1 sound card, broken into separate stereo zones with asound.conf (so in theory I can get 4-zone multiroom audio from just one PC with one soundcard).(I use this asound.conf: yum.vortexbox.org/app/asound.conf). This does create four separate stereo channels, and they do work.
