I am in the process of re-creating the test case for this one, as unfortunately the one I used to have (online) has changed.
The way to reproduce is:
* use a document with a SYSTEM id or a PUBLIC id outside of the catalog (plus a SI)
* the SYSTEM id URI redirects to a 404

* The latest stable release of OpenJade is 1.3.2.
* The latest stable release of OpenSP is 1.5.1.
This patch updates at least that bit of the outdated home page.

Consider the XHTML document (attached) with an upper-case (thus invalid in XHTML) A element, itself with attributes.
Running it through onsgmls' validation will report:
% onsgmls -s -wxml -wnon-sgml-char-ref -wvalid -c /path/to/xml.soc < uppercase_element.xhtml
onsgmls:0:13:11:E: there is no attribute "href"
onsgmls:0:13:42:E: there is no attribute "title"...

validating http://www.xyzzy.claranet.de/home/test/res.html through SPO, and calling split_message() on one message received, SPO croaks with following message:

Hello,
The CVS version of spo declares itself as version 0.100
http://spo.cvs.sourceforge.net/spo/spo/lib/SGML/Parser/OpenSP.pm?revision=1.33&view=markup
However 0.100 is considered as < 0.99 by perl's use, which gives such absurdities as:
SGML::Parser::OpenSP version 0.99 required--this is only version 0.100
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted
...
Suggest using 0.991 if code is...
