I now have everything working and I'm trying to plot a couple of temp devices as a test setup.
wx_plots runs and generates 5 boxes with red dots.
wx_plot says "and provide for a different set of sensors."
I guess I'm not clear what this means i.e. what needs to be edited?.

The short message is SUCCESS. Unfortunately, I not sure why. Here's the story.
I looked at the directories and nothing was unusual with ls -al
but, I deleted the devices directory anyway and ran gdb and stop at different point. I tried deleting the setupNG directory and owwnogui ran successfuly just as you described. I changed diver to USB and did search succesfully.
BTW...

My ubuntu is a quad core 64-bit just a little david & goliath here <grin> I didn't expect the owwnogui to run but it was an interesting test.
The executable size difference did surprise me.
Here is the gdb info
(gdb) run
Starting program: /opt/bin/owwnogui
Program received signal SIGINT, Interrupt.

I certainly agree it is very strange. I get no message at all from owwnogui -i just a blinking cursor for a couple of minutes and then TERMINATED and I'm back at my root prompt.
my latest attempts don't even get me TERMINATED, just a blinking cursor again.
What is so strange is that every other basic command works. Digitemp works. Nano works for editing. I have created a second...

Interesting
I used the ipkg oww so I don't know the ./configure used
I am ssh as root into unslung
I have those directories and made sure both are a+rw.
I put devices into devices dir and file is a+rw
same file is .oww_devices in /root director
owwnogui -i after a couple of minutes comes back TERMINATED
well at least ends without ctl-c.

Thanks for response Simon
Yes
/opt/share/oww/devices file has line
driver USB
owwnogui -i still does not run
is this where oww looks for the devices file?
I also put a copy in /opt/share/oww/setupNG just in case
there is no setup file of course until -i runs I guess
BTW, I also tried running oww on my ubuntu system
took my quite awhile to find the .oww_devices file in home...

I have look through all of the OWW pages and can't find a
solution.
I'm running a new NSLU2 and want to run oww with a Hobby Boards USB to DS2490 interface
I have Unslung'd (ver 6.10) and everything seems to work great. I've
installed SSH. I installed oww with ipkg
I do a remote login as root via SSH and run owwnogui -i and it "hangs"
with a blinking cursor. No messages...
