I completely agree with the respect thing, I'm just sad that there isn't a good way to bring a whole network up to date at the same time.
I'd love to get my whole network bumped up to the beta level, but from the sounds of it we can only do it one person at a time. Are the betas still completely network compatible with v1.0.6 stable?.

I notice that there's a whole new site set up for Alliance P2P beta support. Any plans on making an official branch, or enabling auto-update in this set?
I'd love to upgrade, but I'd like to make sure my whole group upgrades too if we decide to enable SSL.

You're absolutely right, my bad. For some reason I was convinced I'd seen differing behavior before, but possibly things just weren't properly finished hashing yet. Sorry about that.

Of note: If Bob shares file1, and Jane downloads file1 and renames it file2 to fit with her naming scheme, and then John attempts to download either file1 or file2, multi-sourcing of the file data does not occur despite it being identical aside from file name. It would be ideal if Alliance could multi-source based on file data hash, independent of file name.

I mean to say, if I share file1, and someone downloads file1 and renames it file2 to fit with his/her naming structure, and then a third person tries to download either file1 or file2, it will not multi-source, implying there's another hash involved somewhere based on filename.

Please make Alliance P2P hash files based solely on file data, not file name.

Something I'd *love* to see addressed: hashes being filename independent. For example, if I have file1 and copy it to file2, both files seem to hash separately in Alliance P2P and come up with different hash indexes. However, if I run md5sum on both files, they hash as identical.
I'm wondering if this is a bug in Alliance, or if it 's as designed to keep multiple file names different.. I've...

I'm pretty sure you've stated that maciek is pretty much too busy to do this right now, and that's fine, I was just wondering if there were any plans for that happening at a future point, or if it's indefinitely on hold.

It may, but only if you use the "LAN operation mode" checkbox.
This is actually one of the things I'd really love to see improved -- mixed networks. Alliance doesn't support mixed networks very well, it'll connect beautifully if everyone is on the open net, but fails to varying levels if half the network is stuck behind NATs they can't open. Improved routing for such cases would be...

Is there any way for any of the other developers to do a SF release? I'd love to see some of the network optimizations and other fixes in an official release.
