I definitely read man e2fsck. In fact, if e2fsck had indicated it was necessary to read the badblocks man page I would have done.
However, my question was about dumping the bad blocks list. Not searching for the sectors again!
I've since tracked that down to yet another tool: dumpe2fs -b

Hello. I would like to get a text copy of the bad blocks list on a particular partition, do you know if there is a way to get this please?

Hello,
I am using e2fsck 1.39-WIP on Knoppix 5.0 boot DVD at present. I have a SATA drive I believe is failing, I am looking for a way to check the whole drive, rather than individual partitions for errors.
is this possible?

Hello,
I get this when trying to run badblocks on a new partition: "/dev/sda1 is apparently in use by the system; it's not safe to run badblocks!"
I am not sure how it could be in use, I only created it just then with fdisk after booting from Knoppix boot CD. Could the message indicate a detailed reason why it thinks it is in use by the "System" please? does that mean the kernel is...
