I tried to copy and paste your 'c2:2345:respawn:/sbin/qingy tty2 -p -n' line in my /etc/inittab. Works just fine here. Are you sure that is the exact line you put inside your file? No tabs instead of spaces, stray characters, stuff like that? What is your qingy version? What is the exact output you get from qingy when it does not work for you?

- Fixed bug introduced in 0.9.7 and triggered when searching for X sessions
outside /etc/X11/Sessions and detected session path is a full path.
Thanks to Riccardo Stagni for the patch.
- Fixed bug, found by 'Tom',
that made qingy sometimes improperly set focus to both session
and username (or password) fields.
- Prevent qingy from crashing in case of error when parsing
settings files...

There is no ./configure in svn because that file is autogenerated by autotools.
./configure actually makes sense only in package releases.
