Hi
yes that's the core upstream bug - it's also linked to in that forum post i linked above. :)
as far as patching it manually before ubuntu 10.04 comes out - could be possible, if you are up for compiling your own xorg. but have to wait for a working code patch to be available first.

Hi
The xserver bug that plagued jaunty is still present in kamric. Though there has been some progress in fixing it, so the bugfix probably will make it into Ubuntu 10.04.
for more info, see this thread:

Hi
Unfortunately, neither of those requests are possible.
As far as request 1, if you're root, you can kill any process. if you want to prevent users from killing a process, just don't give them root access.
As far as request 2, that requires lower-level kernel access that is not possible in python.

Hi
in case it's helpful, there is a python debugger called pdb.
that said, as far as figuring out the use of zip.exe, it's probably easier to just try things from the interpreter directly.

Hi
No, this is expected - there's no need for a thread for the 'general' section.
(by the way, still haven't gotten around to figuring out the ftp problem - will let you know when i have something.)

Indeed, I have just tried that myself and found that to be true. so I have just released an update which doesn't escape the . in the character class. should now work with both gawk and mawk.
Thanks a lot for your feedback!!
