Hi, CChris. Thanks for the clarification about CSM. I was hoping that perhaps CSM was something different from what you had already explained, but I guess it's just the Menu key that you mentioned in your first message. I had tried using that, along with the *nix Feel, but although AllChars recognized the functioning of the Menu key (it turned the first key icon in the system tray red), I...

Thanks, hwfa. Fortunately, I have just found an old copy of AllChars, version 3.6.2, and this one works on my laptop, even though later versions did not! (I haven't tried it on my desktop, but I don't really need AllChars on my desktop, since I've used the ALT+4 method there for years.) Thus, I'm content for now with version 3.6.2. I wish I knew why the later versions won't work--neither on...

Hi, nicolleen. Thanks for your response. In fact, I'm very familiar with the ALT+4 combinations. That's how I typed the é in my earlier reply to you. I use ALT+4 all the time on my desktop. However, my laptop doesn't have a numeric keypad, and going through the procedure for getting some of the regular keys to function as a numeric keypad is a pain. Thus, for my laptop, I'd like to be...

Thanks, nicolleen, for trying to help. I'm happy to hear that this worked for you. Unfortunately, I've had no luck. I've tried just about every combination, both using and not using *nix Feelalike. Nothing seems to work. I've tried several text editors and word processors. No luck. Each time I change the configuration, AllChars seems to recognize the key I've chosen. The number 1 in the...

Thanks, hwfa, for your response. I know that there's a version 5. Unfortunately, I've tried that as well, and I have the same problem with it that I have with version 4.

Thanks for your response, but what does CSM stand for?.

Thanks, CChris, for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on my computer. I did what you said, checked "Unix feel" and chose the Menu key, then restarted AllChars. When I hit the Menu key, the first tiny AllChars key in the system tray turns red, just as it did for CTL. I'm told "waiting for the first key", but when I hit the first key, nothing happens. It...

  • Can't get AllChars 4.0.321 to work

I have recommended AllChars for years, and I've used it on my Windows XP Pro laptop. Recently I tried to install it (version 4.0.321) on my Windows XP Pro desktop, and though it installed readily, I can't get it to work. It was visible in my system tray. When I put my mouse cursor over it, it said "AllChars - Waiting for CTRL key." Hitting the CTRL key didn't change that, though it...
