The images must be on the same machine. If you want to resize remote images, download them locally first, put them in some /tmp folder, and then resize them.

The current release of Asido is for both PHP4 and PHP5, and because of the PHP4 compatibility the "Call-time pass-by-reference" is used. I assume you are using PHP5 and that's why you see those warnings. If you want, you can get the PHP5-only version of Asido from the SVN repository.
