Please try this png-file (created with Inkscape, with a transparent background) in the patched wxWidgets sample.
Checking "Bitmap button" in the wxWidgets sample cause in an error inside dc.cpp in the wxAlphaBlend ctor (line 2645).
Reopen the png-file with IrfanView and resave it with(!) transparancy work. I think IrfanView save transparancy another way than Inkscape does.

Please provide a small (this is important!) patch to a sample
reproducing the problem. Without being able to reproduce the bug
it is difficult to do anything about it.

The bug is still there on WinXPSP2 with wxStaticBitmap and wxTreeCtrl items, etc.
