This happens because dar warns you that the archive was created using a newer version and asks if you want to continue. I hope to fix this for the next release.

This happens because Dar needs both the first and last slices of an archive in order to be able to list the contents of the archive. A future version of DarGUI will give users the option of inserting a disc containing the final slice.
Meanwhile, there is a fairly simple workaround.
