This is not a bug. There should be an option in the window manager's widget set to allow you to show hidden files. In KDE and Gnome you do this by right-clicking on the file list and selecting "View hidden files".

This happens because dar warns you that the archive was created using a newer version and asks if you want to continue. I hope to fix this for the next release.
