  • Comment: Add PAM support... [possibly]

Good idea. I'll have a look, seems doable to me (would have to intercept password and hash it). Never been much of a PAM fan, though, don't know much about about its internals.

  • Comment: Add PAC file support [will implement]

I will seriously think about it. In fact, a guy form one MAJOR corporation asked for this not long ago (want it for notebooks on their vast networks).

  • Comment: Compilation on OpenSolaris [implemented]

For other Solaris freaks - :) SVN revision 206 has all that sorted.

  • Comment: Compilation on OpenSolaris [implemented]

Yep, I know about this - when I make the next commit or release, Solaris compilation will be supported. Didn't have time to update Cntlm officially for a while, but my "personal" version has this and some other stuff sorted - had to make it work on a new GW which was SunOS 5.10. Anyway, thanks for dropping the note here - it can help other Solaris users in the meantime! See you around. Dave.

  • SLES10 stateless

Hello, we are pitching a big HPC deal with IBM to a major client and we would like to make use of xCAT 2.0, but the blades have to run SLES and we need stateless "technology". Egan Ford suggested this request to let you all know about our issue. I can assist you in the process by testing or sending patches. Testbed installation on two blades will happen in about 10 days. Best regards...

  • Comment: Windows-specific transparent authentication

Yes, well, that is an option obviously... I didn't really check WX, because I actually hate it and had sworn never to use it again. :) But, alas, if that is the only way... On the plus side, I could choose any language I like, not the other way around. I'll see. Thanks! :)

  • Comment: Windows-specific transparent authentication

Yeah, it's a service - you can manage it via NET.EXE: net start cntlm net stop cntlm This may be used in a shortcut too, so you can have Cntlm start/stop as icons on your desktop. System tray - this is not possible (surprise!:)). Daemons should not be visible or interactive, but I'm planning a GUI frontend for Cntlm, which as a regular GUI app will be allowed to have a tray...

  • Comment: Windows-specific transparent authentication

Yes, I get it, but that's how it works on all platforms. You should use (preferably NTLMv2) one-way hashes to securely protect your password and of course file systems permissions to make cntlm.ini only owner-accessible. Once somebody hijacks your identity (e.g. via logged in session), he can get your password hashes (and more) from the system anyway.

  • Comment: Windows-specific transparent authentication

Nice try. :) What you describe could be perhaps called "dumb proof" or "fully automatic", but what Cntlm does - authentication - is transparent already. I'm sure Windows users like apps, which they don't need to know absolutely anything about. Unfortunately, Cntlm is not such an application. Cntlm is fast, light and runs on a multitude of platforms. Absence of OS-specific hacks is what makes...

  • Comment: Fails to compile on Mac OS X 10.5.1 [fixed in 0.35+]

Apparently, there was a change in Mac OS X from 10.3 to 10.4, which makes hostent.h_addr hidden if _POSIX_C_SOURCE is defined. I've changed the code to use newer hostent.h_addr_list, and if that causes problems with older OS'es, I'll arrange for a conditional #defines. Inlines warnings were correct, some util routines used to be inline and their prototypes still had it. Removed...
