If you want to compile keytouch you should have the development package for libgnome-menu installed. This will probably have a name like libgnome-menu-dev.
This is not a bug.

It seems that the problem is that the evdev X keyboard driver is used instead of the traditional xkb driver. As a result keytouchd has to do a different translation from kernel keycodes to X keycodes.
At the moment I know how the translation for the evdev driver should be done. However the problem is to detect which of the two drivers is used by the X server.

You should use keyTouch 2.4 in combination with the latest version (the beta) of keyTouch-editor.

What if you run keytouchd from the command line (after killing the running keytouchd)? Does it give some errors? Please also try to run xev and press the keys. Are events generated?.

Answer to problem 1:
xev doesn't get key events from the keys that you configured, because keytouchd catches these events (it has to because otherwise, it can launch programs when you're pressing these keys).
Answer to problem 2:
Could you tell me what the output of the evtest (included with the dvb-utils package) program is when you press these keys?

- how can i send a simple keystroke like 'p' or 'i'?
If you can program a bit, you can easily modify one of the existing plugins that also send simulated key events.
- is ist possible to deactivate the OSD when decrease/increase volume oder mute?
Well you can use the amixer command (not the plugin) for adjusting the volume without having OSD.

It can be done much easier than MCD suggests. With keyTouch-editor, you can create a keyboard file for your keyboard. After you created this file you can import it in keyTouch. If your keyboard is connected via USB, then you should use the latest version of keyTouch-editor. Checkout the website for more information.

The current keyboard files for the Cherry CyMotion keyboards will only work when your keyboard is connected via PS/2. So that's probably the problem.
You can make it work for USB, by opening the keyboard file in keyTouch-editor (the latest version) and assign to each key the "usb-code" by clicking the "Change..." button and then pressing the key.
After you edited the...
