Starting gnomecatalog results in random errors:
- memory corruption
- free(): invalid next size (fast)

Intel Core 2 Duo
Gentoo, compiled for amd64 (x86_64) architecture
Python 2.5
Detailed problem:
- gnomecatalog shows the window, albeit it is empty (no buttons or menus or anything)
- gnomecatalog hangs, this happens somewhere near line 49 of /usr/bin/gnomecatalog...

The best option right now would be for you to try using the latest SVN version - lately there was a patch added that should remedy the problem (albeit by turning the sound off) and also would give more info as to where OpenAL initialization went wrong.
