  • Update 17th December 2008

STARS was originally written in 2001 for the bioinformatics servers at the University of Oxford running the Solaris operating system. The original developers are now in other employment and are no longer supporting or developing STARS as part of their work. The recommended route for obtaining STARS is now the biolinux project run by the NERC Environmental Bioinformatics Centre in Oxford...

  • CVS repository clean-up: stars

I was trying to upload files to the cvs for the project stars. I noticed that there were already files (seen using the web browser) there from an old project also called stars (we took over the name from them). what should I do. Can you also check that I am the admin of that project on the cvs server since I didn't manage to log in or import any files. Thanks Man-Suen Chan.

  • bug fix - single stranded regions

I have fixed a bug seen by derrick crook's group. contig editor hangs on contigs with long single stranded region on reverse strand. I have changed the code so that now contigs are opened on the first base of the forward strand. files affected, contig-editor and mlst.tcl. molbiol is fixed, new download incorporates fix as of 23/12/03. We'll sort out better way to report bugs soon!

  • Followup: RE: Database design

Thanks for your reply. I didn't mention it but I agree that quality values should be in the database. Also I agree repeats can be a problem, at the moment the naming scheme is strain.locus1/2.abi, is it necessary to change this? or do we let the user edit the strain. about the new staden folder for each plate - do these folders stay there forever or do they get deleted when the plate is...

  • Database design

This first topic for discussion is database design. As a result of previous discussions, it has suggested that an underlying database should be incorporated into stars before any other major development should take place. It is suggested that: 1. The primary function of the stars database is for sequencing project management. Groups may have their own databases for MLST etc. 2. the stars...
