One of the problems with Microsoft is that they often pick generic names for their software, such as Word, Windows, COM, or .NET.
This makes it much harder to search the web for tips or bugs.
Unfortunately, Console suffers from the same problem. I just tried to search the web on a problem I'm having combining IPython in pylab mode with Console. But of course I'm getting lots of false hits...

Hi,
Console is a big improvement over CMD.EXE on Windows.
One thing I still miss from Unix terminals is double clicking to select a whole word. In some terminals, you can even define which characters are considered to form part of a word, making it easy to select a whole file path in one double click.
Maybe triple click could select a whole line too.
Also, it'd be nice if the...

Clone tab would be a handy shortcut. It would make a new tab with the same settings as the current tab.
It'd be nice if it was accessible from a hotkey, and from the main menu, and a tab context menu if you make one.
Thanks for Console!

While I can see how this pause on select feature from CMD.EXE might be useful, it is also sometimes very annoying.
If you do add this to Console, please make it optional.

Hi,
It's generally a fiddle to switch between tasks using
the keyboard, or generally for that matter. Apple's
Expose is obviously cool but difficult to implement.
Another idea I noticed recently on WinXP is that
WindowsKey-Tab switches between apps in the order they
are shown in the taskbar. This seems like a much more
useful operation than Alt-Tab, which is only really
useful for...

I assume this would also allow meld to be used to resolve
CVS conflicts.
E.g.
<edit file>
cvs checkin
<cvs file has changed since last update>
cvs up
<conflict>
meld filename
<pick which version to keep, maybe hand edit a little>
cvs checkin
Apparently xxdiff does this with --unmerge, although I
haven't tried it yet...

Hi, I was very surprised that gnuplot does not support the ability to independently control the line style (dashing)
and the line colour. It is essential for a project I am currently working on.
I am faced with several choices: kludge the postscript output, hack the gnuplot sources, or switch
to another plotting program.
I do not understand why adding this...

Thanks.
LimitSize fixes the problem, however the comment is
confusing (atleast in my version of icewm, debian stable
1.0.9.2-7):
# Limit initial size of windows to screen
LimitSize=0 # 0 / 1
"initial size" implies this preference only affects the size
of new
windows, whereas in fact is also restricts resizing windows too.

Hi
I'm using icewm 1.2.2, on debian.
I've found I cannot resize windows to be bigger than
the desktop. The edge of the window simply refuses to
drag any further.
This is sometimes a problem with certain applications
that expect to be bigger, of if you want to force a
particular layout.
I've noticed other window managers, e.g. windowmaker,
allow windows bigger than the desktop.

I have a suggestion to make the repeating events
section of the "add event" form a bit clearer.
Currently it says (by default):
repeat this event [don't repeat] for a [week]
I suggest changing it to read by default to something
like:
Repeating how often? [this event happens once
only]
how long to keep repeating? [6 months]
With a typical...
