I haven't got much experience with Ubuntu, but i will try to help you anyway.
You shouldn't be in the need to compile sidplay2 yourself. I don't know how you downloaded it, but if you downloaded it's sourcecode from the sourceforge, then you are heading for the harder way.
Since you are using Ubuntu there should be an easier way to get sidplay...
