Thanks for the report. This is already fixed for the next release. If the select process changes for any reason (eg, it dies in the meantime) it will not send a signal, and it will beep instead.

I committed a fix in svn. Now, if the process terminates before the user selects the signal, the command will simply be ignored and a beep will sound when the user tries to issue the signal. This is better IMO than suddenly closing the menu, and will guarantee that init won't be accidentally killed.
