Well, I know you want to install on Vista, but I have a suggestion. Download Sun Virtualbox and install Ubuntu as a VM and use that. I posted step by step instructions for Opentaps on Ubuntu. If you are installing, 1.4 preview 2, you need to use sun-java6 instead of 5.

I had this error and it turned out that the opentaps database was missing. So I recreated the opentaps database, ran ant clean, and then ran run-install-seed. That cleared up the error. Good luck.

I was using sun-java5. I installed sun-java6, ran ant clean, and then redid the install. It works now. Thanks.

To Si's question what the "official instructions" are missing, it's not missing anything. Obviously, it is complete since I was able to get it to install (demo). It's just that it assumes some familiarity with Linux, Java packages, and Postgresql. For example, the official instructions does not mention that the password for the Postgres user needs to be changed in Postgresql and Linux. It's...

Some kind of a setup wizard will help greatly. But I was really hoping for more detailed instructions how to modify .XML files under mycompany. For example, it is not obvious how the company name and address should be entered in CompanyData.xml. And I really can't tell what fields are meant to be changed and what fields are not. I can try to figure it out by trial and error but this would...

Same content as before. Formatting needs some work but that's all I can do for now. If you follow these instructions, you will be able to get Opentaps up and running for evaluation.
The instructions assume that you are running Ubuntu Desktop 8.04
LTS (32bit) and you want to install Opentaps 1.04 with
Postgresql database. It should work with later versions of

The instructions assume that you are running Ubuntu Desktop 8.04
LTS (32bit) and you want to install Opentaps 1.04 with
Postgresql database. It should work with later versions of
Ubuntu and Opentaps 1.4. If you only have Windows Vista or XP
machine available for testing, you can download Sun VirtualBox
and install Ubuntu as a virtual host. Just make sure that you
assign about 1.

If you don't mind using Ubuntu, I will post step by step instructions this weekend. It's "relatively" easy if you use Ubuntu. I use 8.04 32bit version. You can even do this on Vista or XP using Virtual box for demo purposes. Once it is up and running, Opentaps is very stable. By the way, I use 1.04 not that it will matter for installation.

I have assigned needed security roles to the admin account and everything is working perfectly. Thanks a lot. I've spent some time looking at different CRM/ERP software packages and I've come to the conclusion that Opentaps the most intuitive and complete package available by far. However, it isn't very easy to install. And I would imagine that most small business owners who are installing...
