It would be a great addition to the eclipse plugin to use an external file. For example a file from a http:// url.
The checkstyle plugin does work this way and it greatly simplifies the setup of company wide rules to enforce instead of duplicate this on each project and computer in a company.

It is pretty easy to remove the log4j dependency at all.
Either by replacing log4j with apache commons-logging to have logtool independency or by using standard JDK logging.
