Something is wrong with your order or library paths. I got the same error message if I installed with the same ffmpeg version, but could fix it easily. It is a linking problem what you have on your system. My suggestions:
1. Do not use self-compiled version of ffmpeg
or
1. Compile ffmpeg and install to /usr/local/lib but make sure that all the time this version is linked against highgui,

Accepted. I could reproduce it with the mentioned ffmpeg version on my machine. I will work on it.
By the way, did you try to use the original ffmpeg version from the debian package repositories? Why did you compile ffmpeg for yourself?.
