deleted the app, iTerm.plist, net.sourceforge.iTerm.plist and the folders ~/Library/Application Support/iTerm, and ~/Library/Caches/iTerm which should reset everything to defaults. This works around the issue, and it looks fine.. Changing the Encoding to "Wastern (ASCII)" (something I needed to do way back then UTF was just getting started on redhat linux) causes things to break again. Setting...

rechecked with vt100, xterm, xterm-new, xterm-256colort, ansi, rxvt, and linux,restarting the session each time, and checking the "TERM" environmant variable. the problem still exists with partimage.

When connecting to a linux box (fedora, CentOS, Redhat, Ubuntu) and running any newt based program (ntsysv, partimage), the location of items is frequently off by one, borders appear as odd ascii characters
