I have not looked at the actual formula, so take this w/ a grain of salt of I'm horribly wrong:
Using fictional numbers:
4/10 stab percentage at 10 damage = 40 damage.
4/10 * 3/2 = 6/10
10 * .5 = 5
6/10 stab percentage at 5 damage = 30 damage.
This SOUNDS like a 25% NERF rather than a buff. Am I misunderstanding something here?.

Actually, do whatever you want w/ it. I have barely had time or inclination to enjoy crawl as a game ever since the AM patch. Maybe once it's all finalized and I can forget the entire episode, I can enjoy it again.

As to disallowing ammo and relying on launcher branding.... I hate the idea. If there's a problem w/ branding large rocks, the rocks should be adjusted, not reduce the options for anyone NOT throwing rocks.

Note that spell levels need to be rebalanced for non-perma branding. Levels were originally chosen based on permanent brands. They would need to be more in line with crusader branding spells. Everything going down at least one level. Things in devastating missiles may need to be moved downwards 2 or more levels in some cases.

why in the world wouldn't you like branded ammo auto iding? when you brand a melee weapon it auto ids. you know what spell you are casting, you get a feedback message. this is obviously a bug,

Never caught this as wizmode id's the ammo for you. While i was at it, I simplified the function a bit and got rid of redundant code.

the problem w/ that logic is that anyone, _regardless_ of their starting equipment can pick up those same items. An Og, can throw javelins just as easily as rocks, for a bit less damage, and he'll still have those starting rocks in reserve.
I'm not saying that any of the races is impossible to ascend based on their starting equipment, just that the races w/ lower...
