You can catch the xforms-submit-error event that's dispatched on the <submission> element. That doesn't include any information about the error, though.
If you just want to see what went wrong for debugging purposes, add a <p id="status"> element to your page. FormFaces will throw debugging information there. OTOH if you want to handle errors better from your form you'll...
