Well, there will be a malloc replacement in mhash (someday), as many standard mallocs are neither particularly robust nor secure. Some are rich in features, but mhash is hardly a general-purpose environment. We just need the memory functions that are essential. The problem should be masked for external applications in 0.9.8.1 by not using the mhash_config.h file in external software - unless...

Ok, mutils should now be more-or-less complete. Thread-unsafe functions are being fixed or eliminated. 64-bit calls will likely be added in future. Most of the redundant code has gone, but there is some still in there. Emphasis can now switch back to getting lots of new hash functions for people to play with.
