  • Comment: Dictionary lookup - search

Thanks for that info. but if the feature I was looking for already exists but this report is still open this request must be about something slightly different or is it? Not a big fan of needing to right click to find things, and if the reporter also missed this feature then perhaps it needs to be shown in the user interface in another more discoverable way.

  • Comment: Dictionary lookup - search

Not sure what the exactly original submitter intended (hopefully he will clarify) it seems unlikely he meant a dictionary to check if words are valid, more likely he was hoping to lookup words and learn their meaning so as to better remember them in future. There are some very odd words in scrabble I wouldn't have even believed were English (zoftig?). gdict might be a suitable backend to...

  • Text lables on Tabs

Both Synfig and gimp[1] use icons only on tabs rather (whereas programs like photoshop or flash do have text lables). While icons are great if they can quickly and easily be recognised they can be bad if they are difficult to recongise or confusingly similar to other icons (e.g. in general it would be very difficult to tell apart icons for similar tasks such as Save, Save As, Save All...

  • Comment: SVG Compatibility

redesigning parts of the Synfig file format to use other namespaces and reuse existing standards such as XMP might make it that little bit easier to convert to other formats. the very verbose synfig XML looks like it might be good when used with simple line based diff algorithm and versioning control system but it is still possible to include lots of line breaks and clear indentation even if...

  • Comment: Use standard Gtk About dialog

First let me say that although the standard about dialog is dull it is deliberately dull and provides useful information. I'd expect a nice big Synfig graphic (or animation even) could be used to liven it up a little without sacrificing the dull but helpful functionality. The first time I used the current about dialog I was left wondering how I was supposed to close it, the eye candy was...

  • Comment: no indication of the state of toggle-able menu entries

best to use standard check box menu items, and to change items to use labels like "Show Grid" rather than "Toggle Grid" [best to avoid trying any changing of the labels to show state because that unpredictable. no particular benefit and would break screen readers in the worst case. always use standard widgets unless you have a very very good reason to do otherwise.].

  • better name for untitled documents

I think it would be better to name documents something like "Animation 1" or "Project 1" rather than using the uninformative "Untitled1". (There lack of a space between the word untitled and the number is what intially drew my eye to this minor problem.) The idea being that even "Untitled" is a title and a not particularly useful title if found on a document in folder full of other...

  • Comment: win32 gtk+ console

http://svn.voria.com/code/synfig-studio/trunk/TODO * Clean up crazy confusing console output so it seems the plan is at the very least to make the console output useful to those developers and testers who need it. perhaps as Synfig becomes more mature and stable then it can be hidden away so that ordinary users do not need to see it but in my humble opinion the more Synfig can do to get...

  • Comment: use a menubar instead of a button for the canvas menu

in terms of accessibility and catering to users with pens and tablets Synfig will want to try and reduce the reliance on right click, and a menu bar will help in that regard too. On a personal note a menu bar will make Synfig substantially more comfortable for me to try and use and learn, just as it make a significant difference to Dia, GIMP, and Inkscape (but in the last case it came with...
