Good points, only to see how many cards an opponent has is not necessarily an option of the board game. You can always hide your cards.
For the change growth, I remember the board game has a ceiling of 25 armies, IIRC. Would make the initial phase more relevant rather than just trying to kill opponents and get their cards, wiping out others with a trade of 40+ armies...

+1 on that! Would make it a lot easier during start-up, if one only plays locally anyway.
