sorry for the late response, but lots of things to do and noone around (vacation time... ;-).
Theoretically, the WAR file should be created automatically when running the build process. I will ask Dieter to look into the build files for the Basic & Open Edition when he returns from his vacation next week.

we are definitely thinking about adding search to the Onepoint Project UI. However, I cannot tell you yet when. It is definitely on the roadmap, but we have not committed to a specific release yet (this will mainly depend on the requirements of our strategic customers).

this must be a typo or a misunderstanding of some sort -- we are currently finalizing 8.1 Update 3, so it cannot be available yet ;-).
I expect it to be available by mid/end next week (both, binary and source packages).
